Open House For Youths’ Sensitization On Anti-Money Laundering And Countering The Financing Of Terrorism

As part of its strategy of sensitizing and educating the populace to ensure a better and in-depth understanding of the nefarious effects of Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing on economies in general and on those of West African States in particular, the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), regularly organizes Open House events for Youths in their capacity as future leaders.

In this regard, GIABA will be organizing the 10th Edition of its Open House sensitization event on Anti-money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) for Youths, on Thursday 8thDecember 2016, in the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abidjan.

The objective of this Open House is to mobilize Youths for AML/CFT and illicit drug trafficking by creating a positive impact in their minds, attitude, behavior and belief. This Open House, which will hinge around the main theme of « Involving Youths in the Fight against Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing » will provide an opportunity for Youths to carry out advocacy by helping them to disseminate AML/CFT messages to their peers as well as political leaders.

This Edition is expected to be attended by 150 participants from higher institutions of learning (Universities, polytechnic institutions, professional institutions, etc.…), Civil Society Organizations, State Departments and Institutions as well as representatives of regional and international institutions, and media houses.

At the end of the interactive sessions scheduled for this 10th Edition of GIABA Open Houses in Abidjan, participants are expected to establish a well-organized and highly sensitized Youth Alliance on AML/CFT regimes, get actively involved in the fight against these scourges and thoroughly grasp GIABA’s mandate and role in the implementation of the FATF Standards.
